Neuro Oncology is a medical field focused on cancers affecting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. These types of cancers can be quite serious and eventually life-threatening. Tumors in the nervous system can develop as primary tumors or secondary tumors that have spread from another part of the body. Primary tumors can affect people at any age but often occur during their prime years. While most primary tumors are more common among males, meningiomas are more frequently found in females. Secondary tumors can reach the nervous system by metastasis, compression, or direct invasion from another site of origin.
